Maria Ernestam

Maria Ernestam

Maria Ernestam has always had books around her, and writing became a natural activity, first as a journalist and now as one of Sweden’s most interesting and most appreciated writers.

Ernestam is not afraid of great, expansive tales, rich human portraits and head-spinning twists of fate. She has a unique style and tone; her works expand beyond the borders of genre, and literary critics have already begun to speak of her works as “Ernestamian”.

Maria Ernestam herself: “I’ve always been fascinated by the fight between good and evil, life and death. I believe that civilization’s veneer is thin, and there are strong emotions running through every human being, which can take very little to lure to the surface. I want to observe the suffering of the world while keeping its joy and happiness, both in my books and in my real life.”

Maria Ernestam was born and raised in Uppsala, and now lives in Stockholm with her husband and two children. Earlier, Maria lived in Germany where she worked eleven years as a correspondent for Veckans affärer and Dagens Medicin. In addition to journalism, Maria could sing and dance, and performed in plays such as Jesus Christ Superstar.
