Born in Jerusalem in 1954, David Grossman is a leading Israeli writer of his generation and his work has been translated into 25 languages. He received his BA in Philosophy and Arts from the Hebrew University. He is the author of six internationally acclaimed novels, and two powerful journalistic accounts, as well as a number of children's books and a play. Grossman has been presented with numerous awards including Chevalier de l’Ordre des Artes et des Lettres (France), Valumbrosa Prize (Italy), Prix Eliette Von Karajan (Austria), Premio Grinzane (Italy), Premio Mondelo (Italy), Vittorio de Sica Prize (Italy) the Marsh Award for Children’s Literature in Translation (UK), the Juliet Club Prize (Italy), the Sapir Prize (Israel) and the Buxtehuder Bulle 2001 (Germany).
